CiTY LIfE is a collection of seventeen songs written in contemporary style for performance either as a full scale production, incorporating dance, dialogue and improvised dramatic links, or for the fun of singing catchy melodies with a modern beat. They are sure to appeal to the students of today. They were performed very enthusiastically by my comprehensive school students.

Written for a typical school band ensemble, 'Hot Sauce', has a strong latin feel with its off-beat rhythm and driving percussion parts. Having a catchy melody in a contemporary style the piece is sure to appeal to students of secondary school age. Indeed, it will appeal to students of all ages.

'10-50 Blues' is a twelve bar blues whose opening theme is treated antiphonally between Woodwind and Brass(+Sax) before developing a polyphonic structure as the following sections build on the opening. It gives the students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with blues style jazz and perhaps start to consider improvisation for themselves.

'Retro 2000', is a collection of songs that feature some of the important events of the twentieth century. These events are as diverse as the advent of talking pictures to the first moon landing, ground breaking heart surgery to the information highway, Freudian concepts to green issues, the demolition of the Berlin wall to fashion trends throughout the century. The song cycle was transformed into a full scale musical performed in the style of a game show complete with jingle. It considered how many of these events proved beneficial to us as a race and how many should be consigned to the trash can of history.
The songs are contemporary in style and lend themselves to a variety of choreography. Not your usual musical, but thought provoking, and certainly different.
