Designed to accompany Compline Service #1, "Psalm 4" presents the text clearly and allows for a soloist to declaim the text as a psalmist over the accompaniment of the choir.

This piece was written for a choir who was up for a challenge and asked me to write a setting of the Beatitudes. As the Beatitudes move textually from suffering to blessing, so the piece moves from minor to major and stillness to movement.
PERFORMANCE NOTE: This piece should be sung with the rhythms of chant, not driven, but not slow.
