Oliver Kentish

Born 1954 in London, England. Studied cello & piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London, 1973-76. Moved to Iceland 1977. Member of the Society of Icelandic Composers. Three times composer-in-residence at the Skalholt Summer Music Festival, Iceland. British government commission for a large-scale orchestral work as a gift from the British people to the people of Iceland on the 50th anniversary of Icelandic independence, 1994. Music for a visit to Iceland by HRH Princess Anne. Prize-winner in competitions for choral music as well as official recognition from the Icelandic Lutheran Church for religious music. CD's include music for bass-clarinet, choral and harpsichord. Over 100 works, much choral and chamber music. Concertos for viola, flute, clarinet,trombone, double bass and tuba. Music performed widely in Europe, Scandinavia as well as USA & Canada. Frequent broadcasts on Icelandic Radio. Currently conducts the Iceland Amateur Symphony Orchestra who have also premiered several of my works. Recent engagements include a concert in the Kammersaal of the Philharmonie in Berlin on 28 September, 2008 and the UK premiere of my "Prelude & Fugue" for 10 violas at the Purcell Room, London on 30th November 2008. Recent events: World Premiere of my Concerto for Double-Bass and Chamber Orchestra, "Ad Lucem" with Thorir Johannsson on Sunday March 8 2009. Upcoming events: First performances of "Artemis", for clarinet and chamber orch. and "Apollo", for trumpet and chamber orch. in October, 2009.
