Julian David Bryson

Julian began his musical career at the piano, winning several awards under the tutelage of Mrs. Sonja Rummel, Dr. Sigrid Luther, and Dr. David Brunell. Currently, he teaches musicians in the fifth through twelfth grades at the Randolph School in Huntsville, AL. He also works as accompanist for the Huntsville Community Chorus, Ars Nova School for the Arts, and other local organizations. Julian holds two degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville School of Music: a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Composition. His composition, "pressing instincts" won first place awards from the College Music Society Southern Chapter and the Southeastern Composers' League, and the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers named Julian as a 2002 scholarship recipient. The University of Tennessee awarded Julian an inaugural Summer Research Internship to write his first orchestral composition, and the Roane Choral Society commissioned him to compose and/or arrange a spiritual to commemorate their 30th anniversary. His music has appeared on recitals and concerts at UTK and at meetings of the Society of Composers and the Southeastern Composers' League. Professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, Alabama Music Educators Association, and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
