Richard Nye
Richard's career as a composer spans more than thirty years from his early days as a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral. His instrumental and choral works have been performed by musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, recorded on CD and broadcast on radio.
He received his South Bank debut in 2001 with his work 8 'til Late for 8 hands on 2 pianos. This work was later included on the 2003 CD by Piano40 (Regent Records) after which he composed Online which was included in a feature on Piano40 by The Independent on Sunday.
His work Cave Paintings was recorded in Canada by the group Ephyra for their debut CD Modern Standards the same year that Michael Varner, professor of percussion at The University of Texas, Arlington, premiered Susvar for solo marimba. Susvar has since been toured by Michael receiving over ten performances in universities and concert halls throughout the southern United States.
In 2006 he was commissioned by The Cheltenham Bach Choir to write a work for their Gloucestershire Composers concert. The piece, for SSAATBB, was conducted by Stephen Jackson (who also directs the BBC Singers). In the same year he appeared alongside Sir John Tavener at a small charity concert where his piece From Hambledon's Ridge (flute, oboe and clarinet) was performed for the first time.
As well as co-writing two musicals he has also provided the score for a production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
