SAINT PETER'S CHURCH TO PRESENT
BARITONE JAMES ROBINSON IN RECITAL

Saint Peter's Church, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street, New York City will present James Robinson, baritone and Jo Kroger, piano in recital at 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Featured on the program will be "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell," a setting of William Blake text by Atlanta composer Curtis Bryant, and "Vater Unser," nine meditations on "The Lord's Prayer" by the nineteenth century German composer Peter Cornelius. Other works will be seldom heard compositions by Gioachino Rossini and W.A. Mozart. James Robinson, baritone, has devoted recitals to the music of J. S. Bach, George Frederick Handel, Peter Cornelius and other baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary composers. In 1980, he inaugurated Georgia Public Television�s Opus series with a performance of Franz Schubert�s Winterreise.

Mr. Robinson continues to be active in choral music, performing in recital at Saint Peter's Church, New York City, the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Philip, Atlanta and with the choir of Grace United Methodist Church, Aberdeen Maryland. He serves as staff baritone for the choir of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1974, he has appeared with the Atlanta Camerata in their annual production of The Play of Herod. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus as well as in lead and comprimario roles with The Atlanta Lyric, Atlanta Civic, and Florida State Opera companies.

Mr. Robinson received his B.M. degree with double majors in Voice Performance and Music History and Literature from Georgia State University in Atlanta where he studied voice with the late Peter Harrower. He received his M.M. degree from Florida State University also with majors in Voice Performance and Music History and Literature. He studied with Todd Duncan and Eleanor Steber at the Ambler Music Festival, and with Burton Garlinghouse at the Blossom Festival where he also participated in master classes with John Wustman. Currently, Mr. Robinson is a student of Irene Callaway Harrower. He has studied orchestral and choral conducting with Otto Werner Muller.

James Robinson�s compositions and arrangements have been premiered by the choirs of Living Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church, and the Evensong choir of All Saint�s Episcopal Church in Atlanta. These have included "There is a Balm in Gilliad," "A Christmas Carol," "To Make Things New," and "The Kings" with Mr. Robinson as baritone soloist. Mr. Robinson�s translation of Peter Cornelius� "Vater Unser" is published on "The Lieder and Art Song Text Page."
