This song was written as a tribute to William Appleby, who hosted the BBC radio programme "Singing Together" in the 1960's. William Appleby was also the Music Advisor for Doncaster Education Authority until 1970, and the song was first performed in March 2007 by local school children as part of the 75th anniversary Festival of the Doncaster Music Service.
