Procerus Culmen (2007) - string orchestra by Kevin Riley
Composed for a forthcoming concert at Douai Abbey. I have tried to create space and depth within this piece to reflect the size of the Abbey.
However due to rehearsal time it did not make the performance.
I am indebted to Matthew Weiss and members of the Octava Chamber Orchestra for it's world Premiere. The mp3 is of the performance so please take time to listen to that if you are interested.

Bravo!
Mr. Riley's world premiere of 'Columnae Procerae' with the Octava Chamber Orchestra was very well received by the orchestra members and audience alike. It depicts pefectly the majesty of the space created by the huge columns at Douai Abbey. This piece is full of beautiful melodic lines played by solo violin and cello accompanied by mysterious and magnificent textures in the orchestra.
We all look forward to peforming more of Kevin's work and wish him all the best in his musical pursuits. As a violinist, I enjoyed very much playing the solo part, and as a fellow composer I congratulate him on the creation and premiere of a very successful work.
Bravo!

Mature and Masterful
I am so glad that Sibelius (software and web site) exist as it allows composers of genuine ability to be heard around the world rather than starving in garrets...well maybe still starving a little, but certainly heard.
Maestro Kevin has produced a work of beauty which clearly demonstrates his compositional skill and genuine talent.
His attention to detail ensures that this work expresses his musical thoughts very clearly - producing a real musical gem.
Young and/or developing composers could learn a lot from a study of his body of work.
His attention to detail has motivated me to do better in that regard
so he can even teach old dogs new (better) tricks.
Please listen to the mp3 of the live performance (well worth the time)....and you could always vote.
Brilliant and Captivating!
While I tend to favor quick and upbeat compositional works, Mr. Riley's Procerus Culman kept me captivated and I actually found myself wanting to hear more with every note. This particularly tune is brilliantly written and very gorgeous! I think it was a wise move for there to be several moments in the piece where the listener feels as if he/she has reached the peak, yet the piece continues to build. This technique draws the audience into craving more beautiful tone colors as the ones in this masterpiece. I applaud this work with great admiration! Well done!
