Piano Concerto in G major (1967) - orchestra by Philip R Buttall (PRB Music)
This was written in my mid teens, and given a first performance by the Plymouth Orchestral Society, now Plymouth Symphony Orchestra. It was my first unaided attempt at orchestration and is cast essentially in a classical style, using orchestral resources typical of the time. However, there are digressions into different styles, an a cyclic element in the slow section of the finale. The first public performance was given in Plymouth Guildhall with the Combined Orchestras of Her Majesty's Royal Ma... (more)

I hope the muse returns soon!
I think I speak for most if not all on Sibeliusmusic.com when I say, I am in love with your music, and I miss it. I listen to this Piano Concerto every single day, because the melody puts you in a peaceful, yet fun exciting trance all at the same time.
Please, continue composing, if not for everyone, for your own good benefit. Sorry to hear about your mother, but hopefully the muse/fun of composing returns to your life, because I greatly miss it.
EDIT: After listening to this several more times, I realize that maybe a Electric Guitar or Bass might be perfect for this song. If you have ever listened to Ashley's Christmas Punk Piece, you would hear how Piano and Electric Guitar blend pretty well. I think the same could go for this piece.
A monumental work
I do enjoy classical music even if it has been written in the 20th century! This piano concerto is a piano concerto in the fullest and most classical terms. Beautifully orchestrated from the first note to the last. The first movement theme is very much, at least to my ears, like a hymn. The cadenza is 'Mozartian' with the trills and Alberti bass type left hand parts. The second movement is serene. The last movement is very lively indeed. Strangely enough I didn't really find the melodies compelling, but the orchestration, the perfect structure, the flow and the overall presentation made up for the melodies not being that memorable, well for me at least. A great composition, well worth listening to many times. Well done.
Holy Crap!
This thing is huge. I mean monumental huge. I loved it soooo much! I love how it is in the style of Mozart! That's really hard to do, plus the piano part is not to hard so a lot of people can play it. Well done.
