March from 'The Nutcracker' arr for Clarinet Ensemble - clarinet choir by Tchaikowsky arr. Rodney Parker (Dorset Wind Music)
As with all marches, interpretation of tempo (or lack of it!) creates the atmosphere. I've set this at 120 in order to achieve precision playing at the outset, particularly with triplets and semiquavers (16ths). The pulse could be gradually increased towards 132 or 138 as the piece becomes more familiar. Depending on this score's popularity, other movements of the suite may follow. Great fun for the bass end of the ensemble!
