Melancholy Lento (1999) - string orchestra by Jim Paterson
This piece has an unusual yet regular time signature where each phrase consists of 2 bars of 4/4 followed by 1 bar of 6/4. The piece features two repetitions of a theme constructed from 10 such phrases. The first repetition is in 2 parts and the 2nd in 5 parts. The piece should build gradually in confidence, from an uncertain insecure start through resigned acceptance to a satisfied confidence.
