Spiritual (1999) - solo instrument by Jim Paterson
This is an easy spiritual tune to give budding pianists a taste of syncopated rhythms between hands.

A splendid hymn tune
Whatever the composer intended he has written a splendid uplifting hymn tune. Any 8787 hymn fits, such as Chatterton Dix's "Alleluya, sing to Jesus..". But by leaving out the chorus and using it (bis) at the end, "Angel's from the realms of Glory" can be fitted. Those who wish to lift arms and dance to hymns will find it better than many tunes intended for the charismatic movement.
Excellent
Children have an innate ability to step in time to a march. I have witnessed it many times as a music salesman. One is left to wonder how children can ever learn syncopation! This piece offers a memorable melody which would serve any teacher looking for a unique recital piece for a receptive student. I enjoyed the melody, although it reminded me more of a western than a spiritual. A feature of Sibelius permits the composer to include fingering text as part of any score. The composer combines efficiency with execution to produce an effective tool for learning.
