Variations in Blue (1999) - solo instrument by Jim Paterson
This is a set of variations on a chord sequence, and a swing rhythm should be adopted throughout. The chords and accidentals give the piece a blues feel, which should start in a relaxed easy-going manner. Towards the middle of the piece there is a general broadening, but this just serves to disguise a tempo increase. The final variations strip the theme to its bare essentials and should be delivered with energy.
