Boogie Cat (2000) - piano four hands by Philip Kim

I wrote this as a parody for 1 piano 4 hands. I got the idea from hearing children at my church playing the main theme almost every week at the piano. I wanted it to be fun and exciting, technically challenging for the players, and for the listeners to enjoy the different familiar melodies incorporated in the music.

And about the key of G-flat, it is a very playable key. If I can play it then other advanced pianists can pull it off. Don't let the looks fool you.

Awesome.
Just awesome. I could listen to this all day. I'm glad a stumbled upon such a gem. Now if only I could play piano that well to play something like this...

A blast!
This piece is a great challenge for your very late intermediate/early advanced piano students. The playful, slow tempo passages are a little dry, but almost necessary for thinking what comes next (you've memorized this, right?). The rest of the piece is an all-out fun, exciting piece to play and perform. There are a few places during the "Chopsticks" passages in which the pianists are given the same G-flat, so you must decide who is going to take it. Definitely a showstopper for a recital!

Brilliant and a lot of fun
I really do enjoy listening to this bright, cheeky and delightful piece. Taking as a main theme a pentatonic piece that all children play even if they have never learnt the piano, the composer takes us on a thrilling and fun journey of pianistic excellence. Another theme is introduced as a foil and that is part of chopsticks, another children's favourite. My oh my, you would certainly have to be quite a pianist to play this duet. Congratulations to the composer for writing such a memorable piece. Well done indeed.
