Prelude (1971) (1971) - solo instrument by Philip Holland
Written at college, probably for Alice, as one of two simple piano pieces to encourage her to play!

Lyrical atonality
This is a very charming Prelude for pianists. I was quite taken by the lyrical white key melody meandering around over the atonal left hand. Fingering would be a very nice addition, and is going to have to be added by teacher or student, as the RH definitely needs some suggestions for early level pianists. However, the lack of fingering doesn't detract from the charming nature of this Prelude. The sophisticated sound will appeal to teens and adults. There are enough patterns and repetitions to make the mastery not too difficult.
