Four Poems of Edward Thomas (2008) - piano & vocal by Laurence Hughes
A setting for counter-tenor and piano of four haunting poems by Edward Thomas, a very fine English poet killed in the Great War. 'The Trumpet' evokes a sort of eerie war-time dawn and memories of the world beyond the war; 'Words' is an extraordinary love poem, almost, to the English language itself. 'Snow' is a rather bleak little winter landscape, and 'Lights Out' is a meditation on sleep, death and what may lie beyond.
