This hymn has it all
A beautiful, well-proportioned hymn. The tune is at once familiar, yet the rhythmic variations keep it interesting. Its structure reminds me of the hymn tune THAXTED, the Jupiter theme from Holst's The Planets. In the grand tradition of hymns it focuses on the character of God (not the foibles of the singer, but I digress), in this case grasping in one hand the Deity of Jesus, and in the other His humanity, holding them side by side in wonderment at the condescension of God on our behalf. Is not this the essense of worship? Mary notes that this is a Christmas hymn, but why wait?

Master of the genre
This composer has a real handle on how to put together a church hymn. Fresh new text that could have/should have been around forever set to harmonized melody at home in any hymnal. The composer makes it look easy, but have you tried writing a hymn lately? Congragulations!
