My clarinet choir grumbled a little when they realised that they weren't getting Danse Macabre in its entirety, but they certainly enjoy playing what is there! It is challenging (as expected), particulary the accelerando section, but it has proved to be a real hit. It would have been nice to balance the level of difficulty between the parts a little more with some swapping here and there, but ultimately all parts have some hard work to do, so no real harm done. Better than most wind instruments clarinets can approach that stringendo sound to some extent, and so the character of the original is largely preserved in miniature.
