Autumn Embers (Piano Arrangement) (2001) - solo instrument by Philip R Buttall (PRB Music)
This was originally titled A Simple Andante, and written for guitar. It is dedicated to guitarist, Alison Smith, who premiered the work at her recital in Plymouth in April, 2002. It does need, however, an excellent guitar technique, and as such cannot be described as 'simple'. On hearing her perform it so successfully, I feel that our idea to rename it Autumn Embers very much captured the nostalgic sentiments expressed.

Delightful
Although sorely lacking the presence of the strings, which gave the origional piece both texture and an increased aura of elegance. This is still a work or art in its own right, now an easier version, and on an instrument where I can now actually understand the music (let alone play it.) It is easy, and therefore allows the player to become the listener, and focus upon the harmonies which are as the title suggests: delightful.
The part is suited to the piano although I would argue that you should hide the extra rests, just a personal preference of mine, as otherwise I find that they only clutter the score without necessarily being useful.
It is a fabulous if slightly cliched piece which is more suited for the guitar yet nevertheless a good piano piece which anyone can pick up, and play your lyrical and expressive harmonies.
