Cantilena (2003) - orchestra by Andy Meyers
This short lyrical piece was written in memory of 2 members of the Kingston Chamber Orchestra who were killed along with their baby son in a helicopter crash in June 2003. The piece opens with the reflective cantilena played by violins alone, this is repeated in a harmonised version by the full strings. The mood then changes to one of optimism and the piece concludes in a triumphant manner. The work was premiered on November 15th in Kingston Parish Church, Kingston Upon Thames,UK.
