Sonata for Euphonium (Arranged from Tuba Sonata) (2004) - solo instrument & piano by James Mackie

This is an arrangement of the Sonata for F Tuba. It has three contrasting movements, some of which are fast and need goog tongueing technique especially in the staccatto section. The arrangement was made for the Virtuoso Euphonium player, Charley Brighton of the BBC Winds who has inspired me to write this arrangement for him.
See Charley's review of the Tuba Sonata. The Euph. part is written in transposed B flat treble clef.

I thought so
I commented in another place that in this piece James had created a delightful universal work which was in many ways independent of the otiginal solo instrument - Tuba. Of course a Euphonium works very well but is not a major change. I suggest that people experiment with various solo instruments. So long as there is no range problem it sounds good - and yet somewhat different - with every instrument I tried. A surprise was the impact of the string section as the solo instrument. Enjoy it as is - experiment with other instruments - I can garuntee you - "Try it you'll like it".
