Caravan to Marakesh (1998) - orchestra by James Mackie

This score, Vol 2, forms part of a two volume CD album called, James Macbeth and the Maestro Orchestra, Sound Traveller. It represents my journey in north Africa, where I followed the Arab camel trail to Marakesh. I have tried to give the impression of Marakesh in the music.

The flute part can be interchanged with a synthesiser woodwind to give a more ethnic sound and feel to the music.

I'm gonna listen to this every time I go to some Arab country!
Being a seasoned Arab-music listener, I immediately clicked on this song. I thought that the drone on cello (glad to see you used it! - as in Apocalyptica play Metallica by four cellos) and double bass, and the percussion made this piece very atmospheric. Also I thought that the frequent imitation was great. Congratulations on an excellent choice of instruments, except for the synthesiser which seemed to me to be out of place. Otherwise, excellent!

Realy good programm-music!
A mysterious beginning - sound of the desert, perfect use of percussion - the caravan is still far away but it's approaching. Wide sand, eternal heat, the steady trot of the camels, all that you can hear. This piece make use of typical sounds we know from famos soundtracks but with other, new and intresting harmonies and effects. Wonderfull and also effective instumentation - first I was surprised from the synthesizer, but later I have to say: this is the correct sound, too. The Partitur follows a well throught-out pattern. You have not to do a journey into a desert - listen only to this wonderful piece. It's the same, but more luxurious.
