Fire Fighter (1992) - wind/brass band by James Mackie arr. James Mackie

I wrote this piece as a commission for Grampian Fire Brigade who celebrated their bi-centenial 1721 - 1992.
Since organised Fire Fighting began in 1721, the brave Fire Fighters of Grampian Fire Brigade have with honour, provided an exemplary service in the region. This music is dedicated to the past and present Fire Fighters in the Service, and is a salute to the Brigade's next fifty which began in 1992. Universal piece
I agree with all that Charley Brighton said about this fine music. And like all good music it carries well though alternate instrumentation. It is obvious that James felt what he was writing about. Also, although it was a commission for a specific group and occassion it has universal appeal and is fitting for the heroic fighters all over. Being from the USA I especially thought what a great tribute it is to the brave firefighers on 9/11.

All bells ringing!
I was very excited to hear from James that he was arranging a small group version of this piece. Having listened to it, I think it works very well, and it must have been very impressive played by a full brass band! It's such a listenable piece, at the same time, it has a true sense of being written with admiration for the Fire Service at Grampian. The slow section is deep in thought and feelings, with the two outer movements bustling along with rhythmic drive. I look forward to rehearsing and performing this with my group.
