Quête du Canard Égaré (2005) - big band by Joe Ricard
This song is meant to portray the story of a duck, thrown from his pond and the rise back to re-conquer the geese that had taken it from him.
It is the first movement of the Suite, the second movement being L'amour du Canard, and the third is Defi du Canard.

Muddy but modal.
As said before, the use of modes is obvious and helps to create the very large scale effect.BUT, as also said before, the piece is NOT jazz and sometimes there is far too much going on.But still a well written piece.Ill now hear the rest of the suite and ill leave some comments on them too!
Not A Duck. Maybe An Elephant.
This piece is supposed to portray a duck??? As the previous reviewer said, it sounds like viking music and you are also wrong to put it in jazz. The harmonies are very muddy and are not pleasing at all! Also, on the triplet part, I would have changed the meter to 12/8 instead of writing out every triplet (because Sibelius has no shorthand for triplet). But, one of the things that I thought you did very well was weaving the melody in throughout the piece, Oh. One more thing. This is nit-picky, but the piano should go below the drums in the score.
It's good BUT...
This is not quite bigband music... when I hear it, it sounds like viking music to me. It is very good written and it is attractive but I think you have placed it in the wrong category; jazz. It should be placed in modern classical, I think. But even if you havedone that little mistake, I think it's allright.
