"London Bridge" for Young Concert Band - wind/brass band by trad. arr. J. Aaron Stanley

London Bridge includes scoring and harmonies not typically found in grade 1 music. It will be a challenge for a young band, but certainly within the grasp of grade 1 capabilities.
This is the first of my educational pieces for concert band. I've decided to devote the large part of my compositional efforts to writing for concert bands and wind ensembles, so there will be more pieces to come shortly.
Parts will be posted here soon.

Harmonically Challenging
The arranger suggests that this piece does not typify normal ensemble works of this kind in relation to Grade 1 suitability, but I beg to differ. Although the opening 4-note chime motif is used to good effect at the outset, the sustained use of this effect begins to grate after a time and this might affect student interest. The use of key and ensemble grouping sustains interest, but only just. The ending leaves much to be desired; it is too open and doesn't feel complete, harmincally shifting away from a neat conclusion for the sake of instrumental variety. There is scope in this for something that can satisfy all concerned (students and audience) but I don't think that in its current state it is able to adequately achieve what the arranger intended.
