I have already been privileged to collaborate with Dragana Petkovi and Biljana Krsti, from Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro, in producing Piano Exercises & Pieces for the Elementary Music School. We have been delighted with the response which a number of solos and duets from this book of teaching pieces has already received at PRB Music.

language
Okay...so no opinion on the piece here, but can we be clear? Kyrie eleison is Greek, and this is a Russian translation of the text...nothing "Jewish"--as if "Jewish" were a language...

Kyrie Eleison
I like this piece of music, but I think the relentless rhythm is a bit much for a song about mercy. However, I did enjoy the restricted use of melody, which gives the piece an earthy feel. Many thanks!

Underdeveloped
This piece starts off well enough, and has quite a few good ideas. I really like the idea of an insistent eighth-note motive as a representation of the penitents' appeal for mercy. I do think that a wider exploration of tonal centers and some development of the rhythmic counterpoint could intensify the representation of the people begging for God's mercy.

Not deserving
This work, in my opinion does not deserve the top rank on SibeliusMusic. Nice chords yes, but not much else, at all. And I find the repeated eights quite irritating after a while. It could be so much more interesting by simply giving different rythmic patterns to the different parts. I also find it difficult to pinpoint a strong thematic gesture in this piece. No melody that would stick in your mind, make you remember it, is present. The end also seems to fall flat because of a lack of expansion on already used material. And it is also a very short piece, although, that may actually be a blessing... Ofcourse this is just my opinion, so no need to pay any attention to it, but I do believe that I am capable of giving an informed opinion. With a little work, this piece can be so much more.

Top score on Sibelius.com?
While possessing pleasant chord changes and a basic knowledge of tonality, I struggle to find the "tremendous climax" the previous reviewer found, and instead find the repeated eight notes slightly overbearing. The piece is also extremely short and simple. Why is this the top-rated score on Sibelius.com, and why do so many of Ms. Petković's works receive such attention, when many have little more content than this one?

Very beautiful choral work
The Kyrie is part of the liturgy of almost all branches of Christendom. It is the one connection all Christians have to the Greek language that the New Testament was written in. It means : Lord, Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy, Lord have Mercy". This composer has used the relentless repeated eighth notes to build to a tremendous climax in a prayer as apporpriate today as it was 2000 years ago when it was uttered by the first century martyrs.
